THE PORT OF ERIE

Port ErieThe Erie-Western Pennsylvania Port Authority functions under the Third Class City Port Authority Act of  1972, P.L. 1392, No. 298.  As such it was created as a body "corporate and politic, with the power to plan, acquire, construct, maintain and operate facilities and projects for the improvement, development and operation of the port."

It is the mission of the Port Authority to promote industrial, commercial, and recreational opportunities for the citizens of Pennsylvania on Presque Isle Bay and adjacent waters.

The Authority uses its legislatively mandated powers to acquire property, construct facilities and enter into agreements to increase the public use and enjoyment at the water's edge and to generate new private investment. The Authority also promotes safe and ecologically sound uses of Presque Isle Bay.

It is the Authority's intent to be a catalyst for long-term, balanced growth along the Bayfront and adjoining areas. The Port of Erie is a working Port that balances industry with recreation on the waterfront.
